Divorce is known to increase a person's risk of suffering from depression. Statistics reveal that the depression rate is higher amongst most people who are divorced or separated, as compared to those who are happily married or living with their partners.

Some individuals may have an increased depression risk because of certain personality types that they have, such as having a low self-esteem, and being constantly worried about anything. Understand that having a negative thinking pattern can only lead you in a downward spiral, which can increase your risk of suffering from clinical depression.

How to overcome depression through mindfulness

Mindfulness is simply defined as being in the present moment, and paying attention to what's happening around you using all your 6 senses. Like many others, you may often find yourself dwelling on past issues or worrying about the future. It's important to understand that having a negative thinking pattern can be really stressful, which can lead to mental health problems like anxiety and depression.

One thing you can do to live more mindfully is to observe what's going on around you in the here and now. Use your senses to pay attention to the people and things that surround you. For example, take a look and observe the people around you. What are they doing? Do you recognize any of them? Do you see a familiar face around you?

Remember to notice the smell and the noise in your surroundings as well. What do you hear? Put in the time to observe the scent of freshly cut grass or the sweet scent of your coffee. Living your life more mindfully is sometimes all it takes to make you feel happier and satisfied.


Being mindful simply means focusing on what's happening around you in the present moment without judgment. Mindfulness is about accepting the people and the things around you as they are. It involves bringing your focus back in the present moment on purpose, so you'll have the ability to maintain a moment-by-moment awareness of anything or anybody that surrounds you in the here and now.

One way to help you learn how you can become more mindful is to practice meditation. Meditation can be a great tool to help you rest your mind and let go of unhelpful thoughts. This allows you to enter into a meditative state of mind. Being in this state of mind provides you the opportunity to become more mindful of what's going on within you and around you as it occurs.

Being mindful helps you learn how to value life more. It's because your attention will be more focused, allowing you to have a full grasp of things.
